Live Stream Lighting Tips

Posted by Charlie Oliver 3/04/20

With clubs, bars & pubs all temporarily closed, and social gatherings of more than 2 banned, we’ve seen a huge surge in demand for live streaming setups. Who knows how long it could be before we’re back dancing together in our favourite clubs, watching our favourite DJs in person, and ultimately how long before you’re back behind the decks playing to a live audience?

New live streaming channels are popping up by the second at the moment & it’s important to make sure yours sticks out amongst the crowd. One way to do this by bringing the club experience to your viewers with your lighting rig.

Whether you’re just looking to add some ambience to your bedroom/home studio, or looking for something to raise the energy levels, here’s our quick guide to getting the right gear for you!

THE WASH – Arguably the most important part of any lighting setup, and one which is often overlooked. These simple & cheap lights are the foundation of any good lighting setup. Wash, or Par lights (sometimes called up-lighters) have a wide, even coverage, and are a cost effective way of flooding your surroundings with light, turning your livestream location from its everyday look into a club-like visage. Here’s some of our top picks:

AUTOMATED MOVERS – Want to create instant energy that matches your music? Moving heads are the perfect solution for this! The dynamic movement of these lights instantly translates into energy on the dance floor – or in this case, in the front rooms & home discos of your viewers! Check out some of these to get people moving:

THE CENTREPIECE – This adds the ‘WOW’ factor to your lighting rig & ensures that your viewers won’t be forgetting your livestream anytime soon! For best results & instant bedroom rave, grab yourself a laser!

COMBI LIGHTS – if money or space is an issue then check out some of these combi-lights. These all-in-one lights combine all of the features above but in a more compact/affordable package.

TUBE LIGHTS – a great way to frame any DJ setup or backdrop.

DMX CONTROLLERS – It’s one thing having a decent lighting rig, but to really stand out you want your lighting & music totally in sync with each other. These DMX controllers can be used to control your whole lighting rig, ensuring that your lights are bouncing in time to your tunes.
